Arranged around Marqués de Salamanca square, Salamanca is a prosperous commercial area, as well as being Madrid’s embassy district. It was founded by the Marqués de Salamanca in the 19th century and completely urbanised by 1927. As such, it is full of lovely traditional architecture. To the south lies the Parque del Buen Retiro, the city’s main park, also known as the “Lungs of Madrid.”
