Catalonia Moratin hotel
The hotel is conveniently located near the famous Golden Triangle (formed by the Prado Museum, the Thyssen Bornemisza Museum and the Reina Sofia Museum) and adjacent to the historic nucleus of the city, which includes the Puerta del Sol and the Plaza Mayor.

Catalonia Moratin hotel
Opened in 2002, the Catalonia Moratin Hotel is housed in a traditional building, which has retained its original 18th century façade. The lobby’s classical features include a main wooden staircase guarded by marble lions and a genuine coffered ceiling. The 63 guestrooms are decorated in a rustic style, with warm colour schemes, hardwood floors and attractively striped bed linens. All are clean and well equipped with modern amenities, as are the en suite bathrooms. The hotel’s sandstone patio – a typical Madrid-style "corrala" – is one of its best features, flooded with natural light and embellished with palms and flowers. There’s also a sophisticated restaurant, a library and reading room and a bar. The hotel offers a Continental style buffet every morning in its welcoming breakfast room.

The location was good, but the rooms open on to a central courtyard which has an enclosed roof, so therefor no opportunity for fresh air and the airconditioner was noisy and not very efficient. However what was really appalling was that on our last night someone had a private party in the bar.The last guest left at 4.45 am and the band played till nearly then. No attempt was made to curb the noise and as our room opened onto the courtyard and bar area the noise was diabolical - despite us closing the doors. The next morning the staff were vaguely apologetic at best. the breakfast I also thought was substandard. It took forever to replenish food as it ran out and the staff were quite surely. It is in a great area, within walking distance of all the sights and restaurants and bars are just around the corner.

We didn't actually stay in the Moratin since on arrival we were told there were problems with the hotel and that we were being moved to another in this chain - the Gaudi. The Gaudi was an ideal base from which to explore Madrid and is centrally located with everything being within comforatbale walking distance.

Have stayed at many central city hotels and the Catalonia Moratin rated highly for location and cleanliness. Hotel with easy walking distance of lots of restaurants and bars, all of which we enjoyed
