The location of the hotel was great and is indeed dead central.
However as 4 star hotels go I really found my room and facilities there extremely lacking.
There was no iron in our room and we were told there's an ironing service, at an extra cost.
Our bed was broke with one leg completely bent meaning a very cautious sleeping pattern. The bed would literally go to one side when you lay on it wrong (as if you can lie on a bed wrong
!). There was a nice spider web in the corner ceiling of our room.
Our balcony view was like something out of a slum with no visibility whatsoever, high walls all round.
There is a big rip off culture in the hotel as when we asked for stamps leaving, we were told they do it for us and asked for payment of nearly twice what stamps go for there.
The breakfast was nice and remained open till 11am.
Top Tip
The Senator hotel is where our friends stayed and they enjoyed a free minibar, the standard use of an iron in their room and just a general helpful attitude from the staff at reception, including correctly priced stamps.

The hotel restaurant did not open until 10pm because prior to that it was booked out for Globus customers. They are not catering for the other non-spanish guests. Also don't count on a 7pm breakfast because they never open on time so we missed 2 out of the three we had paid for. The bar and restaurant staff were sometimes unhelpful and rude.
Top Tip
Get to like American take away food as before 9pm there are the only places open - they are packed with locals - go figure? Always ask how many dancers for flamenco - we were expected to pay 31 euro each for a lone male.

Would not rate this as a four star hotel.
Staff not very helpful - very much a serve and look after yourself hotel.
No kettle in room either!
Top Tip
Open top bus trips go from opposite side of road to hotel or round the corner at bottom of road.
Can book flamenco or bull fights on internet before you go.

Very good in all respects EXCEPT noise from the 24 hour traffic on the Gran Via. Our room was on the first floor overlooking the Gran Via. There was no air conditioning, or it wasn't working, and so we needed windows open. The traffic noise was constant - including sirens - throughout the night. A problem even with windows closed.
Top Tip
2 excellent restaurants nearby - La Gloria de Montera and La Finca de Susana. Not expensive and fantastic food.
